Root-knot nematodes of the genus Meloidogyne spp. are important coffee tree parasites. The main species in this crop are Meloidogyne paranaensis, M. incognita, and M. exigua, with the latter being widely disseminated in the country. The best control strategy is the use of resistant cultivars, as it reduces costs and does not pollute the environment. The objective of this work was to evaluate the resistance to M. exigua and agronomic characteristics of 34 Coffea arabica progenies, originating from crosses between Catuaí group cultivars and Híbrido de Timor selections, and the control cultivars MGS Paraíso 2, Catuaí Vermelho IAC 144, and IPR 100. Two experiments were installed in the Cerrado Mineiro region and evaluated vegetative vigor, productivity, processing yield, percentage of floating fruits, maturation, percentage of flat beans retained on sieve 16 and above, and nematode population in the roots. Progenies 2, 12, 17, 28, and the cultivar MGS Paraíso 2 showed superior performance in both experiments.
Key words: Coffee Arabica; Meloidogyne exigua; Híbrido de Timor; Breeding.
